Thor Smith
To everyone at Final Journey,
Thank you for the compassionate services you have provided in this gut-wrenching time. I will be telling all of my friends to keep you in mind when they need to say goodbye!
I wanted to give immediate feedback about Ally and Dr Becky. Oh my goodness, those two are angels. It was a beautiful experience, and they are the reason for that. Thor was happy, relaxed, and comfortable; it seems strange to say this, but I will cherish my memory of that day thanks to them.
I wrote a poem for Thor that I’d like to share with them. (They make a cameo appearance in the line about forbidden treats!)
Early Snow
The snow came down for you that morning, Thor.
It was the first flurry of the year, arriving early, as if Mother Nature knew you wanted to feel some cold, wet flakes on your big, beautiful head one last time.
You greeted those flakes with pure joy, running (briefly) like a pup again—one last time.
Yes! It was a happy day! With belly rubs and (lots of) forbidden treats.
You played in the front yard—one last time.
You rambled Ash Creek, sniffing familiar briny air—one last time.
(And the heron called to us. I swear he did. Or maybe it was my imagination.)
You snuggled with me by the fireplace—one last time.
And then, right on cue, the sun came out for you—one last time.
Sleep well, beautiful friend.
Breathe easy, sleep well.
